The Penobscot Bay YMCA will hold its annual Learn to Swim Program during April vacation, April 21-24. For children (ages 6-12) in Knox County and Lincolnville, This FREE program provides valuable skills and knowledge that will last them a lifetime.

“Offering free swim classes at the Y signifies our commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve. We are thrilled to offer local adults, children and their families the opportunity to learn how to be safe around the water and learn how to swim through our free Learn to Swim Program”, said Ben St. Cyr, Aquatics Director.

Last year nearly 100 children were grouped by age and ability. This year we hope to double this number. Advanced swimmers will work on technique and endurance. Beginner and intermediate swimmers will learn to be more comfortable in the water and focus on fundamentals, like proper kicking and arm movement.

Reflecting on last year, one swim instructor Andréa Penney said, “At the beginning of the week many of the swimmers were fearful and uncomfortable in the water….one of our biggest accomplishments this week was helping to remove this fear”.

The YMCA caters to swimmers of all ages and skill levels, from our parent child classes to our progressive classes. Come be a part of the swimming community and develop this valuable life skill.
