Nationally Known Contemporary Christian Musician Coming to Camden October 2

Marsha Stevens, a Contemporary Christian singer, musician, songwriter and recording artist, will be offering a solo concert at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, at 7 pm, Friday, October 2.  The public is encouraged to attend for the experience of hearing her clear voice bringing an inspirational musical message.   There is no admission charge.  A free-will offering will be accepted. 

The Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music states that “.  . . Marsha Stevens certainly deserves to be known as the mother of contemporary Christian music, having started her music ministry in the in the late 1960’s when she wrote “For Those Tears I Died (Come to the Water)”  That song became widely known and sung in churches and by youth groups across the nation.

Stevens was the leader of what is considered to be the world’s first contemporary Christian music group, “Children of the Day” and she has continued as a solo artist to produce albums of worship-oriented and edifying adult contemporary pop “

During her stay in Maine, she will also appear at the Pleasant Street Methodist Church in Waterville.

A list of her albums includes, “Songs of Praise in a Strange Land”, “The Waiting’s Over”, “Is this the Real You?”  “In Retrospect”, “The Gift in on the Inside” and “UP (Unashamed Praise.)

Visitors to the church can reach it by turning onto John Street at the Subway Shop on Route 1 in Camden.  The church is at the corner of John Street and Simonton Road.
