Story Location:
58 Elm St
Camden, ME 04843
United States

The community is invited to attend an All-Species Parade in honor of Earth Day to be held Friday, April 17 at 11:15 a.m. in downtown Camden.

Children from the Children’s House Montessori School will represent a variety of species, both flora and fauna, with masks, puppets, flags and more. The All-Species Parade will begin at the Children’s House located at the Elm Street School building, 58 Elm Street and proceed down Elm Street as far as French & Brawn before crossing the street to gather at the Village Green for a circle and singing by the children. Following the singing, paraders will return via Elm Street to Children’s House.

The first All-Species Parade was held in San Francisco in 1978. It has since grown into an international “All Species Project” with educational programs for teachers. The aim of All-Species Parades are to build a sense of community while reestablishing our connection to the natural world. The opportunity for children to research a different species helps them to take a larger view of the earth as a whole and think about the interdependence between species and the importance of diversity to the planet.
