Mental Health First Aid Training at URock Oct 6 and 8

Sat, 09/13/2014 - 7:30am

University College at Rockland will host "Mental Health First Aid Training" this fall from NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Health. This training is beneficial to anyone who may be in a position to help another experiencing a mental health related crisis or problem.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a best-practice, evidence-based certification course 8 hours in length leading to a 3-yr certification  by the National Council on Behavioral Health. It mirrors the idea of regular first aid empowering individuals with just enough information to respond and to help guide an adult with a mental health need to get the right kind of help.

- Trainees willl learn a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues and neighbors cope with mental health problems.

- Similar to traditional First Aid and CPR, MHFA helps a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis until professional treatment is obtained.

The training at URock will occur Mon/Wed October 6 & 8 from 5:00 - 9:00PM. There is a fee of $5 which covers pizza, bottled water, chocolate and tent cards.

Contact NAMI directly at 622-5767 or email christopher@namimaine.org for more information and to register for the training.
