Honoring an old friend

Alan Baudanza passed away Jan. 17, 2011, following a long battle with cancer. He was a special man, he held a high regard for the younger generations, especially athletes. And, he loved golf.

Soon after his passing, family and friends formed a memorial to raise funds for scholarships to be given in his memory.  The committee came up with the idea of having a golf tournament, mainly because of Alan's love for golf. The money raised is given to local high school graduates and post graduates of Oceanside East. Over the past years, because of the generosity of friends, family and local businesses the committee has awarded $25,000 in scholarships since the fundraiser was established.

“Organizers are awestruck by the kindness and generosity that has been shown by our community, family and friends over the last five years,” said event organizers. “The organization is proud to contribute to our future leaders.”

The Alan Baudanza Memorial Scholarship Committee is now planning for the fifth and final golf tournament to be held Aug. 22 at the Rockland Golf Club in Rockland.

This will be the last fundraiser and also the grand finale!  The success of this event is credited largely to hole sponsors and to all the golfers who participate.    

For a contribution of $100, organizations/companies can sponsor a hole and have a large beautiful sign placed on one of the 18 holes at the Rockland Golf Club the day of the golf tournament.

Shepard Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep is sponsoring the event for a hole-in-one.

The committee is also selling Alan Baudanza Memorial Raffle Calendars now thru June 27, for $20 each.  The calendar month is July 2015.  Each day of the month a name will be drawn. If your name is drawn, you win the donated prize for that day.  You have 31 chances to win; your ticket remains in the raffle for the entire month of July.

The Sea Dogs donation was an unexpected donation from Bank of America.  Since our committee wants our fundraising efforts to go out with a BANG, we have added that donation to the 4th of July drawing!

There will be a Lobster Bake for all the participants golfing Aug. 22. D.J. Rusty Barnard will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is welcome to attend
