Home energy management is a family affair, especially for older people on fixed incomes.  Whether you’re looking to cut operating expenses in order to to stay in your home, or to prepare a family home for the next generation, making your home energy efficient is a great first step.

Evergreen Home Performance and Spectrum Generations invite the public to learn more about aging in place at a brownbag conversation at Spectrum’s Coastal Community Center (521 Main Street, Damariscotta) on Thursday, November 29 at 11:30 am.  Evergreen will explain common efficiency and comfort problems and their solutions, share financing information, and answer questions.

“We’re eager to share this information with the Spectrum community,” said Evergreen President Richard Burbank. “Energy efficiency really can be the difference that allows people to stay in their family homes.”

It certainly was for Rockland homeowners Michael and Jody Herbert, whose astronomical heating bill threatened to push them out of the home Michael’s family has lived in since the 1930s.  Evergreen Home Performance offered a better solution:  efficiency upgrades that tightened and insulated the house and cut those heating costs by 30%.  Since the Herberts financed their project with a long-term, low-interest loan from Efficiency Maine, they had no up front costs.  Their energy savings more than cover their loan payments, and they can stay in their home – comfortably and affordably.
