A fundraiser for Herring Gut Learning Center at the Strand Theatre

Please come support Herring Gut Learning Center and enjoy a rare conversation with Oscar "Andy" Hammerstein--grandson of America's most celebrated and beloved lyricist, Oscar Hammerstein II at the Strand Theatre in Rockland on Thursday August 6 at 7pm.

Get behind the scenes with personal stories, memories, and film clips of the iconic Broadway and Hollywood songwriter, director and producer.  Andy is the family historian, archivist, and story teller extraordinaire who has devoted much of his life to preserving his family's heritage and contribution to American culture.

Andy will be available during the evening to sign copies of his book, “Hammersteins: A Musical Theater Family.”  Andy lectures frequently before universities, institutes, theatrical and civic organizations on the Hammerstein Family's pivotal role in shaping the development of theatre and popular entertainment in America from the 1860s to present day.  A not-to-be-missed event!

For three generations, the Hammersteins have impacted American musical theatre with no historic equal. In this one of a kind event, he will bring us behind the scenes of such classic musicals as   "The Sound of Music", "Oklahoma!”, "Carousel", “South Pacific" and so many others. Using photographs and film clips--many you have never seen before, you will hear first hand the story of an American family living the American dream in celebration of musical theatre and popular entertainment from the 1860's to the present. Andy will be happy to take questions for the audience following his presentation, and will be arriving ahead of the event to sign copies of his book, “The Hammersteins: A Musical Theatre Family" the proceeds of which will go to Herring Gut Learning Center.  Tickets are $20 and are available at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street in Rockland or online at www.rocklandstrand.com
