Dementia Series at The Lincoln Home: When Your Spouse Develops Dementia

Event has passed

The Lincoln Home’s first talk in our free 5-week educational series on caring for someone with Dementia is Tuesday, March 03, 2015 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. Dean Constantine is a husband who has lived the reality of caring for a beloved wife through her Alzheimer’s journey, and through her passing. Dean will eloquently share his unique perspective as an introduction into our Lunch and Learn Series. Dean says it is more than just completing the tasks of caregiving… it’s also about being in loving connection to your spouse.

This series will offer both professional speakers and those who have met the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia. Useful information will include: how to provide a stimulating environment using light, color and music: stimulating taste buds to provide proper nutrition; travelling with someone with dementia: advantages of home care agencies and adult day care programs.

Each participant will be loaned a copy of the bestselling novel “Still Alice,” to read on your own. “Still Alice” is an excellent portrayal of an accomplished linguistics professor diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The author, Lisa Genova, has received unprecedented support and praise from the Alzheimer’s Association and medical professionals nationwide for her accurate and gracefully compassionate story of the impact of Alzheimer’s upon Alice, her husband and their family. The final meeting of our 5-week series will be an in-depth discussion of “Still Alice,” integrating the knowledge and heart wisdom gained from our speakers and our reading of the book.

A “brown bag” lunch will be provided by The Lincoln Home Continuum of Care to all registrants at no charge.

The Lincoln Home, 22 River Road, Newcastle. Please RSVP to Kacie@one2one.org or at 563-3038 as space may be limited.
