College Information Session at Rockland Library

Wed, 10/14/2015 - 5:00am

Chip Curry, Student Service Coordinator for University College at Rockland will hold a free and open information session at the Rockland Public Library on Tuesday, October 20 from 10 - 11:00AM about local access to university programming.

Curry will talk about courses, certificates, full degree programs and support services available without leaving the mid-coast.

"We realize that coming to our campus at the Breakwater Building may not always be convenient, or even comfortable, for some so we are taking our message out into Rockland," said Curry.

University College at Rockland is a part of the University of Maine System with offerings from all 7 UMS campuses.  URock provides access to 13 Associate Degrees, 30 Bachelor's Degrees, numerous Master's Degrees and Certificate Programs from across the campuses. Courses are taught face-to-face, through interactive television, videoconferencing and fully online.

Curry added, "We work with students to help college fit into their lives. We have a lot of choices in how students can take courses both part-time and full-time."

Curry will also have information available about various scholarship opportunities including Osher and the United Mid-Coast Charities' "URock" scholarship for first-time college students, as well as scholarships for those who have some college credits but no degree.

"There are some very good scholarship programs as well as federal financial aid to support students," he said. "We will help students access lots of different resources," he added.

Preregistration for the free and open session is encouraged by calling 596-6906 but it is not required.
