Daniel Osier graduated in May from the University of Maine at Augusta's Computer Information System Degree at University College at Rockland and quickly earned a job at VillageSoup. He is now a Senior Software and Web Developer fixing "bugs", responding to client requests for site upgrades, doing back and front end work.

"My university degree prepared me for this job. Most of the classes I took directly relate to the job I am doing now. I use the skills daily." said Osier.

Osier's 40-course degree program included some of his favorites - 2 courses in data base management, 2 courses in web design plus 5 programming courses. He also minored in math.

While Osier was a senior in the CIS degree program he completed a required internship at VillageSoup developing their mobile applications for the Apple operating system ios. Now as a full-time employee he will be creating the mobile applications for Android.

"Dan is a great example of how college internships often lead directly to employment," said Deborah Meehan, Director of University College at Rockland. "The required internship for the CIS degree gets our students out into the workplace doing valuable work."

The fall semester at University College at Rockland begins Monday August 31.  For more information about the CIS degree as well as over 700 courses available locally contact University College at Rockland at 596-6906 or visit its website at www.learn.maine.edu/rockland.
