Church Supper to Raise Money for Camden Area Christian Food Pantry

Event has passed

At 5:30 pm on July 1 the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, will be serving a public supper with a portion of the funds dedicated to the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry.  Cost of the meal is $9, $5 for children over age 12.

The tables fill up rapidly, so it is advised that people arrive early to guarantee a seat, especially if they are part of a group out for a hearty meal.  Pies are the first choice diners make as they enter the Fellowship Hall: choosing a delectable slice before sitting down.  The selection of home-made pies includes mince, pecan, chocolate, lemon, raspberry, rhubarb, blueberry, apple and other seasonal choices.

The host of the evening welcomes the crowd with a corny joke, a blessing and the drawing of a lucky ticket to admit the winner to 2 free meals in the future.  Then the servers swarm to the tables delivering home baked beans and salads of greens, fruits, beets, potatoes, macaroni and other delicious choices.  Last out are the hot, home-made dishes including corn casseroles, clam casseroles, American chop-suey, veggie, chicken, beef, and ham selections, to name a few.

The monthly suppers feature lively conversations with friends and strangers alike, and at the end it might be said, “. . . and a good time was had by all.”
