Each year, Totman’s is one of many sponsors for a local fundraiser to help raise money for local people battling cancer.
The 5th Annual “Joy to be Bald” Fundraiser will be held Sunday, October 19, 2:00 to 6:00pm at Lori’s Café, 504 Belfast-Augusta Road, Liberty.
What began in 2010 as a dare between Café owner, Lori Mayer, and a patron who offered to donate money to a mutual friend if Mayer agreed to shave her head; has grown into an annual event to offer financial assistance to local people battling cancer. The event still bears the name of the original recipient and dear friend, Joy Mehuren, who succumbed in Lung Cancer in 2011.
Using a core of committed volunteers and the generosity of the community at large, all items are donated and 100% of proceeds are disbursed locally.
This years’ event will feature something for everyone. Starting off with a 2.2 Mile fundraising walk-a-thon from The Tower, past JOY Lane, to Lori’s Café; a Silent Auction, a chicken BBQ courtesy of Liberty Fire Department, a Bounce House, Face Painting, and live music all topped off with the Head Shaving event.
The event has grown large enough so that this year the funds will benefit two recipients- Bruce Lovely of Belfast and Kathleen Schissel of Brooks.
