On Saturday, August 16 (3rd Sat/mo), the Belfast Co-op is offering a free guided store tour, which is open to all. The tour, which begins at 10 a.m. at the store entrance, will highlight the benefits of becoming a member-owner of the Co-op and how to take best advantage of shopping there.
Participants will learn about some of the diverse variety of merchandise available and various cost saving services such as pre-ordering, bulk buying and pre-paid Co-op cards. Proper use of the peanut, almond butter and coffee bean grinders will be demonstrated, and the fresh fish and bread delivery schedules and extensive list of flavors of store-made sausage, all made from local meats, will be shared.
How to keep more of your food dollars in Maine year-round by buying "local" will be highlighted. Over the past year, Belfast Co-op customers have kept over $1,882,500 circulating in Maine by choosing to purchase Maine products. Also covered will be the Co-op Deli's catering services and their selection of beer-, wine-, and soda making supplies. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions, including any special dietary needs, to help personalize the tour.
The community-owned Belfast Co-op, open 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, is located at 123 High Street in downtown Belfast. All are welcome. For additional information, visit: belfast.coop or phone (207) 338-2532.
