Belfast Co-op’s Annual Community Appreciation Day

Event has passed

On Saturday, August 16 from 10am to 4pm, the Belfast Co-op invites the community to attend our Annual Community Appreciation Day. There will be free live local music throughout the day, local vendors with free samples, a cook-out with burgers and dogs, including vegetarian options, and Co-op Hot Italian sausage subs with peppers & onions. This year the event will again expand beyond our parking lot, at 123 High Street in downtown Belfast, and take over High Street between Main and Beaver streets.

This year's live music lineup is: 10am Gawler Family Band, 11:15am Belfast Bay Fiddlers, 12:30pm Tom Luther Quintet, 1:45pm Leaky Boot Jug Band, 3pm Octavia. Between music sets, door prizes will be announced for lucky winners.

Many local vendors will be providing free samples, including Bagel Mainea (Augusta), Bixby Bar (Rockland), Borealis Breads (Waldoboro), Half Moon Farm (Montville), Maine Root (Portland), ME Water Buffalo Co.  (Appleton), The Milkhouse (So. China), Seacoast Coffee Co. (Portland), Suecakes (Belfast), Wicked Joe Coffee (Topsham), and more!

There will be a fundraising book sale, gift basket raffles, and a 50/50 raffle with all proceeds donated to local nonprofits. These activities typically raise about $1200. This year's recipients are The Game Loft, New Hope For Women, P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, Veggies For All and Waterfall Arts! The Co-op’s gratefully accepting book donations through 8/10 - books only please; no textbooks, magazines, tapes or discs. Please bring your donations to Customer Service (straight ahead as you enter the store), or let the manager on duty know if you have a large/heavy delivery, and they’ll assist you.

Polly Shyka and Prentice Grassi of Village Farm in Freedom will be selling MOFGA-certified organic produce again this year.

The Game Loft, Waterfall Arts, and potter Russell Kahn will be providing children's activities.

The Rock Coast Rollers - a diverse group of women dedicated to advancing and advocating for the sport of roller derby, women, their league and their community will be showing off their skating prowess, distributing giveaways, watermelon, and flyers about their next home bout in Rockland.

P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County will be providing information about their good work providing sanctuary while seeking forever homes for companion animals.

Maine Farmland Trust will be sharing a "pop-up" show of images called the "Lexicon of Sustainability" which are large printed photographs that are collaged and altered to illustrate people, stories, and ideas around sustainability that are mounted on two-sided easels. These will be on display throughout the event.
