Ashwood Waldorf School is pleased to announce the upcoming graduation of their eighth-grade class at the Strom Auditorium, Camden Hills Regional High School, on Saturday, June 11, at 1:00 p.m.

At Ashwood, graduation is seen as a significant moment for the whole community: for the younger children who are inspired by the eighth graders and who look forward to their own graduation; for the teachers who have had a hand in their education; and for the parents of children in other grades who have watched and helped the eighth graders grow through the years.

Each year, students in Ashwood’s graduating class undertake independent projects as the culmination of their educational experience. Students combine the academic, artistic, and intellectual capacities fostered by their Waldorf education to research, develop, and present a project of their choosing. The maturity and self-motivation required to accomplish such a project is a prerequisite for moving on to secondary school. Projects require students to find mentors and to share their work with an audience.  This year, projects included rebuilding and "steampunking" a motorcycle; winemaking; writing and publishing a cookbook; researching herbal remedies; making a hand-forged hatchet; building a wooden dinghy; designing and building a model house; composing a sinfonietta; and apprenticing with a potter.

All parents and friends of Ashwood are invited to celebrate this milestone, and are encouraged to attend.
