Ashwood Hosts Intro to 1st Grade and Candle Dipping!

Event has passed

February 2 is Candlemas Day, an ancient festival that marks the midpoint of winter. It is a great day for making candles, and also for beginning to think about another turning point: a child's transition from kindergarten to first grade!

Ashwood Waldorf School in Rockport is offering an opportunity to do both this Thursday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m., in their early-childhood building.

Early-childhood faculty Marianne Böckli and Beth Lunt will share their insights into markers of first-grade readiness.  Our school director (and experienced class teacher) Jody Spanglet will present an overview of first grade in a Waldorf school,  introducing the basic grade-school program (blocks, main lessons, main-lesson books, specialty classes), and the specific first-grade curriculum including literacy, math, and a variety of artistic and movement activities.

Following the presentation, everyone is invited to dip candles together!

This evening (for adults, please) is a wonderful chance to learn more about Waldorf education, and all are welcome. The event is free of charge.
