Art Opening & Wine Tasting at the Belfast Co-op

Event has passed

On Friday, November 21 from 7 to 9pm in the Belfast Co-op Café, there will be a free wine tasting of highlighted seasonal wines and the opening for Kelsey Floyd's art exhibit, "Stand Still", which will be on display in the Co-op Cafe through December 14.  Justin Wardwell, of Wicked Wines, Jaap Helder, from the Co-op's Wine Department, and artist Kelsey Floyd will be available to answer questions.  Featured wines will be 10% off during the tasting; participants must be 21 years of age or older to attend.

"Stand Still" is a collection of works depicting the rise and fall of a romantic relationship. Floyd uses this work to serve as a visual diary depicting events, memories, and significant moments throughout the relationship.  Diptychs, or two images paired together, are used to provide the viewer with clues of each visual secret as well as a tool to build and reinforce relationships between paired images.  The printing technique, which is a xerox transfer, is reminiscent of the way our memory functions - though we typically strive for accuracy, memories are often seen through personal lenses; some details are enhanced while others fade.

Originally from a suburb of Chicago, Kelsey Floyd currently lives and works in midcoast Maine.  She received a BA in Studio Art with a focus in Sculpture and a BA in Psychology from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.  These degrees have informed her art, which combines her interests in photography, sculpture, and psychology. Her work has been exhibited nationally at venues such as the Minneapolis Photo Center, Texas State University, the Putnam County Museum, and Low Road Gallery in Indiana.  Teaching with the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland and being associated with Maine Media Workshops in Rockport since the summer of 2011, Floyd has fallen in love with working as an educator in the field of photography.
